Two jailed after man was stabbed in vehicle

-

A MAN was left with lifechanging injuries after he was followed to a lay-by and stabbed.

Travis Luke Tyrone Furnish has been jailed for seven years after the vicious attack in Barry.

Cardiff Crown Court heard the 21-year-old, of no fixed address, was in a car being driven by Demi Jade Smart when he saw the victim driving through Ely, Cardiff.

Both men were known to each other and Furnish got Smart to follow the 27-year-old victim until he parked in a lay-by in Sully Moors Road in Barry.

Furnish proceeded to open the victim’s car door and stab him multiple times before fleeing the scene in the car being driven by Smart.

South Wales Police said Furnish went on the run for a number of weeks before being arrested in Grangetown, Cardiff.

He was charged with and pleaded guilty to GBH with intent.

A judge this week sentenced him to seven years in prison.

Smart, 23, from Caerau, Cardiff, was arrested the day of the incident and was sentenced to four months for assisting an offender.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Gillon Neal, of Barry CID, said: “This was a very serious incident which left the victim with serious and life-changing injuries.

“This case demonstrates how seriously South Wales Police takes crimes of this nature.

“Knife crime within our communities will not be tolerated and the custodial sentence given to Furnish and Smart is testament to this.”
