‘Mummy bigger than pyramids’ sheds 10 stone

-

A SHOCKED mum shed 10 stone after saying her holiday snaps made her look “bigger than the pyramids”.

Helen Kinch, 37, cut out her desserts after her trip to the desert – because she was embarrassed by her Egyptian photos.

Helen weighed 21st 7lb when the pictures were taken on the family trip and they forced her to ditch her unhealthy lifestyle.

She said: “My mouth fell open when I saw that photo of myself – I had no idea I was so big.

“I looked bigger than the pyramids.

“I remember I decided on a playful pose which created an illusion of me touching the top of the pyramids.

“When my husband showed me the photo I was horrified at how huge I was. He said it was a great picture but I knew I looked enormous.”

Helen, of Caerau, Cardiff, gave up eating chocolate bars for breakfast and began eating healthily and taking up a regular exercise regime.

“I had a desk job and I’d skip breakfast and treat myself to two chocolate bars instead,” she said. “I’d eat a triple pack of shop-bought sandwiches for lunch and then there were always doughnuts and cakes in the office to graze on too.

“I was in complete self-denial and avoided the scales. Everything was a huge task – even doing the housework I would need a rest.

“My wardrobe consisted of black trousers and anything to camouflage my shape.”

After the holiday snaps Helen went to her GP who told her she was obese – so she took up the gym to cut her weight. She said: “I walked slowly on the treadmill and I managed to lose a few pounds. But I wasn’t really enjoying it at all.”

Helen took up Cross Fit with her husband Rhys, who supported her along with son Cain, 14, and daughter Ffion, 17.

She said: “One day Rhys persuaded me to try Cross Fit with him. He explained it was a full-body workout with aerobics and weightlifting but promised it was fun.

“I had nothing to lose so I signed up for an introductory session. I knew I was probably going to be the fattest and slowest person in the gym.

“I signed up to five classes a week and I stopped eating fat-laden sandwiches and ate salad instead.

“I’d make bolognese with spiralled courgettes instead of spaghetti.

“If I wanted something sweet I would snack on sugar-free jelly or fruit instead of chocolate. I just made better food choices.

“It wasn’t just getting fit – it was tackling my food addiction too.

“I am now a size 10 to 12 and weigh 11st 7lb. I love the way my body feels and I have heaps of energy but it does take a lot of effort to stay in shape.

“Seeing those pyramid pictures was horrific – but thanks to them I changed my life.”
