DOZENS OF YOUNG CYCLISTS STOP TRAFFIC ON BUSY CITY ROAD

A GROUP of nearly 100 children on bikes stopped traffic on one of Cardiff’s busiest roads.

Footage on social media shows the cyclists pulling wheelies, driving too close to cars and even lying on the saddle on North Road.

It is understood it was part of an organised ride by a bike group in the city.

But many motorists have criticised the cyclists for being dangerous and say it is only a matter of time before someone is seriously injured.

Rhia Nute, who was going into Cardiff city centre with her family on Saturday afternoon, says she couldn’t believe how many young people there were coming over the Gabalfa flyover.

“They were doing wheelies as they came down the flyover in front of a car,” she said.

“There must have been 80 or more. We couldn’t believe what we were seeing.

“They were swerving in and out of traffic and it was very intimidating. We have heard reports of problems across Cardiff.

“The police need to do something before someone get seriously hurt.

“It is an accident waiting to happen.”

A shopper who saw they cycling past Cardiff Castle said: “There must have been 100 or more who came down North Road and then went past the castle.

“They were all ringing their bells and cheering. I didn’t see many of them wearing helmets.”

South Wales Police was asked to comment.
