Fan gets a Lion’s share of Sam’s kit

-

ONE lucky rugby fan was chuffed to bits when he managed to bag some of the kit Sam Warbuton donated to a charity shop in Cardiff.

Chris Cahill, 32, saw the rugby’s star’s tweet about dropping some of his Lions kit at the Tenovus Cancer Care charity shop in Rhiwbina – and asked his sister Michelle who was in the area to head over in the hope of picking up some of the captain’s goodies from his time in New Zealand.

He said: “I saw the tweet on Thursday and I saw that Sam had said he was going to be in the shop at four, so I quickly messaged my sister who I thought may be in the area. Fortunately enough she was there and she managed to get in the queue pretty much at the front, and she was able to jump in and grab some stuff for me.”

By the time Michelle got the shop, there was already a queue.

Chris said: “She did a little drive-by in the car and there was no-one there, but by the time she parked, a couple of guys had got in front.

“She was waiting in the queue messaging me because she doesn’t know anything about rugby. So she’s like: ‘What sort of stuff do you want?’ and and I’m like: ‘Anything that’s red and got Lions stuff on – go for that.’”

Chris was thrilled with his haul – which included a navy top, trousers and socks – especially as he’s such a massive rugby fan.

But there nearly was a mix-up which could have seen him with half a kit.

Chris said: “She enterered the shop and picked up the trousers and then some other guy had the top, but then he didn’t want the top so Michelle picked up the top and grabbed some socks as well.

“I was chuffed to bits. It was awesome. Sam is a complete legend.”

Chris and his daughter Bethan are massive fans of the Lions, and watched every game during the tour.

He said: “Bethan has seen all the games, we’re massive rugby fans, watched all the tests, and I’m just really proud to have something from Sam.”

And despite the result, Chris was still thrilled to own something that belonged to the Welsh captain.

He said: “After the first test, a drawn test was much better than a loss. To get any kind of result against New Zealand is pretty good.

“I think the Welsh boys did particuarly well, and Sam had an awesome test as well.”

But one thing Chris wasn’t so chuffed about was the amount he had just spent on kit.

He said: “She [Michelle] didn’t tell me how much it cost, though, until she got it to me. It came to about £166 in total.

“It was a bit, but it’s going to charity – that’s how I jutsify it to my wife anyway.”
