Appeal as men filmed ‘fighting’ at roundabout roadworks

-

FOOTAGE showing three men coming to blows in the middle of the road after a crash on a controversial roundabout is being shared widely on social media.

They were filmed in what appears to be a road rage incident at the Pwll-y-Pant roundabout, known locally as the Cedar Tree roundabout in Caerphilly.

Construction work at the roundabout is having a big impact on commuters in the area and causing a lot of disruption for motorists.

The footage, filmed by from a passing car, shows what appears to be a fight between a car driver and the occupants of a van.

They are seen shouting at each other before it develops and punches are thrown.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to come forward.

A spokeswoman for Gwent Police said: “At around 3.10pm on Thursday we received reports of a fight between three men following a two vehicle road traffic collision at the Cedar Tree Roundabout in Caerphilly.

“Both vehicles left the shortly after the incident.

“Officers are investigating and if anyone has any information about this please call 101 quoting log 276 16/11/17.”

Drivers have complained that the roadworks have added hours on to their journeys.

The roundabout makes up part scene of the main route into Cardiff from Caerphilly borough.

The work, approved by Caerphilly council, aims to improve journey time reliability for bus services, and to reduce traffic travelling through Caerphilly town.

But since the work started, motorists have taken to social media complaining about the disruption to their commute, with some drivers taken more than an hour to travel a matter of miles.

Bad feeling towards the works has grown so much that a petition has been set up calling on the council to re-think the roadworks immediately, and has received thousands of signatures from disgruntled drivers.

Businesses in Caerphilly have also complained about the works, with some claiming the disruption caused is killing trade.

Caerphilly council the scheme, saying it has defended will eventually bring “significant improvements”.

The council said: “It is inevitable that with a scheme of this magnitude there will be some disruption, and we’d like to thank residents, businesses and road users for their patience while these important works progress.”
