Work set to start on new homes

-

CONSTRUCTION of more than 100 new homes in Mountain Ash will begin in the coming weeks.

Persimmon Homes East Wales has been granted planning permission for its Golwg y Mynydd development on land off Cardiff Road.

The decision was made on Thursday and construction work is expected to begin soon.

Managing director at Persimmon Homes East Wales Martin Smith said: “We are delighted to be pressing forward with our plans for these 110 new homes in Mountain Ash.

“The plans follow a lengthy period of consultation and collaboration with Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council.

“Good-quality, affordable housing is required right across south Wales. While Cardiff is a huge area of growth, and of course the city is a focus for us, expansion and new housing is also required further north and into the Valleys.

“It is important that these areas are developed so that young people who have lived there all of their lives have the opportunity to remain there when they leave the family home.”

Golwg y Mynydd will consist of a range of two-, three- and four-bedroom homes next to Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s flagship Mountain Ash Cross Valley Link Project, which will see a 60m bridge built from Persimmon’s site over the railway line and the river Cynon.

The site is located a mile from Mountain Ash railway station and 19 miles from Cardiff.

It is thought the bridge will provide a “key link” for traffic travelling on the A4059 and B4275 in order to relieve congestion in Mountain Ash.

The project will cost around £12m to construct and Persimmon Homes has agreed to provide a substantial financial contribution as part of its development.

Those looking for new homes are now able to register their interest in the development.

House-hunters will be told when the first homes go on sale before the end of the year so they do not miss out on their preferred plot.

Mr Smith added: “We are expecting these properties to be very popular.”
