More places available as popular 10k race returns

-

ONE of the UK’s top running races is returning to Cardiff – with a new flatter and faster route.

The Cardiff 10K will be held on Sunday, September 2, 2018, and will have an increased capacity of 10,000 runners.

Entries will open on New Year’s Day with an early bird discount available for the first 750 applications completed.

Established in 1985 by Kidney Wales, attracts professional athletes and runners from across Wales and England as well as international participants.

The Nation Radio Cardiff 10K is the largest 10K in Wales.

Leading UK and Welsh Athlete Dewi Griffiths, winner of the 2017 race said: “The Cardiff 10k is one of the leading UK 10K running events and I was honoured to win it this year.

“However, it was the 8,000 runners in 2017 along with the supporters that created a great atmosphere and that made such a difference to everyone on the day.”

Professor Roy J Thomas, chief executive of Kidney Wales, who has been organising the annual race for the last 32 years, said: “We receive incredible feedback each year on the Cardiff 10K, and we are very much looking forward to bringing an even bigger and better race in 2018 with new partners - our title sponsors Nation Radio Wales.

“We will continue to develop this race to reach our goal of becoming the most sought-after race in the UK.”

Entries for the 2018 race will open at 9am on January, 1, 2018 on the Cardiff 10K website.

Prices start from £22.50 for an individual and just £5 for the 2K Family Run. An early bird discount of £3 is available for the first 750 10K individual entries.

Race organisers Kidney Wales are looking for runners to join #TeamKW as individual runners or a community team to continue their work supporting families and changing lives of kidney patients in Wales.

All runners who opt to run for Kidney Wales will receive a running t-shirt/vest, a fundraising pack, and the first 500 to register will receive a limited edition longsleeve training top.
