City centre bus lane to close for gas works

-

A BUS lane on a busy Cardiff road is set to be closed for four months while gas pipes are upgraded.

The closure is part of £23,000 works in the Greyfriars Road area to upgrade old metal pipes to new plastic ones.

It means the bus lane into Cardiff from North Road to the Hilton Hotel will be closed.

The upgrade is expected to take 16 weeks to complete and is set to begin on January 8.

Wales & West Utilities – the gas emergency and pipeline service that serves Wales and the south west of England – said it was necessary for traffic management to be in place as part of the work.

It said it is working with Cardiff council to accommodate bus services that will be affected.

Francis Kirk, Wales & West Utilities’ programme controller for the area, said: “Our work on Greyfriars Road is essential to keep the gas flowing to power businesses in the area and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future.

“We continue to work closely with Cardiff council to plan the best way to complete our work while keeping disruption to a minimum.

“Working in areas like this is never easy but we will work as safely and as quickly as possible to make sure that we get the job done with minimal disruption for businesses and the local community.”

Wales & West Utilities said its customer service team can be contacted for questions about their work. You can contact them on freephone 0800 912 2999 or email enquiries@ wwwutilities.co.uk
