Witness tells court she heard man shouting ‘I will kill you’

-

WITNESSES reported hearing running, shouting and swearing on the street outside their homes the night a man was allegedly stabbed in Cardiff last summer, a court heard.

Cardiff Crown Court heard local residents were woken by a disturbance around Theodora Street and Pearl Street in Splott in the early hours of July 13.

Giving evidence from the witness box, Casey Wozencroft said she heard a man shout: “I will f***ing kill you.”

Sean Kelly was 37 when he died at the University Hospital of Wales three days after the alleged attack.

Aaron Bingham and his friend Nicholas Saleh deny murder and are on trial.

Ms Wozencroft told the court her window was open on the latch and she was woken by noise in the street outside her home in the early hours.

She said: “I heard footsteps running past my bedroom window.”

The witness said she heard a male voice with a Cardiff accent shouting.

Another local resident, Ellie James, said she was in bed at her home in Pearl Street when the incident occurred.

She said: “I heard shouting, getting louder, coming towards my house.”

Ms James told the court she could not really make out what the voices were saying but she did hear a man shout: “I’m going to f*** you up.”

She added the man sounded like he was directly outside her house and had a local accent. The witness said she also heard the sound of a bin being knocked over.

Prosecutors previously said Mr Kelly was stabbed in his left leg, leaving a wound that was at least 5cm deep.

A pathologist found his cause of death was multiple organ failure caused by blood loss as a result of the stab wound.

Bingham, 18, from Tweedsmuir Road, Tremorfa, denies murder, stating he was acting in lawful self-defence.

Saleh, 46, from Adamsdown Lane, Adamsdown, also denies the offence, accepting he was in the general area but denying any responsibility.

The trial continues.
