Man City is big... but Wednesday is even bigger

THERE was a major shock in the Luxury Windows First Division Cup, with SET going down by 3-1 to CSKA Sophia Gardens.

CSKA took the lead with a penalty from Rich Hamlett, awarded for a foul on Jon McCarthy, who was then played through by Jordan lloyd to make it 2-0.

As early-season pace-setters, SET are not a side that were going to lie down and soon got the score back to 2-1 before half-time.

The second half saw SET FC impose a more physical approach on the game as they tried to get the elusive second goal back to level the game.

However, CSKA held strong and managed to limit the number of chances on their goal and indeed they responded with a third goal from Aiden Martin, his first for the club.

Elsewhere, the quarter-final tie between Splott Athletic and Cardiff Eagles went to extra-time after the match had finished 2-2 in normal time. Splott proved to have the greater resilience in extra-time, as they hit three goals to run out 5-2 winners and seal a semi-final place.

They will be joined by Elympia, who cruised into the semi-finals with a comfortabl­e 5-0 win over Four Elms Elite.

The other semi-final place went to the Greek Cypriot Associatio­n of Wales as they edged out Cogan by 3-2.

Glamorgan Vikings booked their place in the semi-finals of the Everson Sports Second Division Cup after a 5-4 win over John Davey Builders, who scored through Andrew Kinson, Liam Roberts (2) and Colin Ashton.

Real Caerdydd secured their semi-final place with a 5-0 win over Cardiff Dragons.

They will be joined in the semifinals by Cardiff Depot, who sent Thornhill Thunder crashing by 6-0.

ThinkVans Cavaliers hopes of a league and cup double were ended when they went down by 8-6 to Radyr in the quarter-final of the Carling Premier Division Cup.

Space Jam Galaxy secured a semifinal place with 4-3 win over Cardiff County.

Seasoned cup campaigner­s Plough Albion edged out Moorland Stars to book their semi-final place.

Cardiff Cossacks take up the remaining semi-final place.

Back in the league, Grange Celts made the perfect start to the New Year, with an emphatic 8-1 victory over Cardiff Cossacks. Macauley Morgan netted a consolatio­n goal for the Cossacks.
