YOUR PETS It’s all a game of combs for star rooster Tyrion

-

Pet’s name: Tyrion. Breed: Pekin bantam chicken. Age: One. Owner: Richard Harvey Mears, 42, an account manager from Abercynon. Owner’s story: “I have always fancied having chickens. I saw him at four weeks old and thought I had to have him.

“For the first eight weeks they lived in the house with us, but now they live outside in a pen with a run so they’re happy but they’re not allowed in the house any more.

“I’ve got four chickens altogether and three cats and one dog.

“The other hens lay around one egg a day. The eggs taste very good too.

“I’m a huge, huge Game of Thrones fan so that’s where Tyrion’s name comes from [after leading character Tyrion Lannister].

“And my Tyrion is little too, but he’s got so much personality. He might be small but when he walks he’s definitely got a swagger about him.

“He does crow sometimes in the morning, but because he’s only small it’s not too loud thankfully. And sometimes it’ll be about 2pm and he’ll just crow for no reason. “You can pick him up too. “I call him in the garden too and they’ll all come flying over, I think they think I’m their mum.

“If it gets dark before I’m home if I’ve been working late, they’ll all fly up to the tree or coop to stay off the ground from predators.

“My cats get on well with all of the chickens. I think because they see me with the chickens and smell them on me they know they’re OK.

“But for the first couple of weeks, when he was smaller, they would just sit and watch them.

“I recommend chickens as a pet to anyone, they’ve got such good personalities.

“I love Tyrion and all the other chickens. I love them like my cats.

“If I’m down or if I’ve had a long day at work I’ll just sit in the garden watching them.”
