Chance to own a future masterpiece at affordable street art fair

-

IF YOU’VE ever wanted to own a piece of original art but without paying the eyewatering prices, then here’s your chance.

An Affordable Street Art Fair is taking place in Cardiff on Saturday.

It will be held at The Boiler House in Canton.

Set up by street artist Bryce Davies, he says it is a rare opportunity for collectors to buy quality art at affordable and “nonegotistical” prices directly from the artists.

On show on the day will be internationally renowned graffiti artists to local heroes. The items on sale will be mainly canvas and framed pieces, with prints and clothing also on sale.

Bryce said there are two main inspirations behind the event.

“It’s a way of taking graffiti and street art and making it more accessible to the general public; inviting the general public in to buy work directly from artists who are very often unknown because they are street artists and harder to engage with.

“The other side is supporting the local artists, and also guys outside of Wales, and giving them an outlet to make money from their work.”

New Welsh street artists will be selling work alongside recognised artists such as Sadsak, Skyhigh and Pyklops.

Submissions are still being taken, with around 20 artists confirmed so far, including both local artists and those from further afield.

The not-for-profit Boiler House takes no commission for selling the items.

“They’re free to make a donation if they sell work, but we’re not going to take anything if they don’t,” said Bryce. “Its a fair deal for everyone. It’s about making a good vibes project.”

On the day, local craft beers will be on sale with live music.

Music will come from The Mix Apes, comprised of DJs Rich Roast and Alex Kidd.

Bryce said he hoped including local breweries would help boost other local enterprises.

“It’s keeping it grass roots and making it all about the subcultures and countercultures of Cardiff, which go against the grain of popular culture and keep things interesting.”

The Affordable Street Art Fair takes place at The Boiler House, Canton, on Saturday, with free entry from 5pm until 12.30am.
