Changes to train services as work carried out on railway lines

ARRIVA Trains Wales has announced that Network Rail will be carrying out more work on the lines between Newport and Cardiff.

It will impact services throughout South Wales, with “essential modernisat­ion and electrific­ation work” taking place from Monday, April 23 to Friday, May 25 and then again on Monday, June 25 until Friday, July 6 . Work will be carried on Mondays to Fridays.

The train company has said updated timetables will only available five days before each impacted week and advises customers to check its website regularly.

Replacemen­t bus services will be running on the ATW Manchester and Holyhead services, with buses being used between the Cardiff and Cwmbran leg and the Newport and Cwmbran leg of the journeys, respective­ly.

These replacemen­t buses will be running over four weeks: Monday April 23 to Friday April 27 Monday, April 30 to Friday, May 4 Monday, May 21 to Friday, May 25 Monday, July 2 to Friday, July 6 On these dates, ATW services between Cardiff and Newport will also be less frequent.

More replacemen­t buses will be in operation on the Ebbw Vale line on Saturday, May 5 to Friday, May 11; Monday, May 14 to Friday, May 18; and Monday, June 25 to Friday, June 29.

Also, on these dates ATW Holyhead services will start and terminate at Hereford – passengers are advised to use the ATW Manchester service between Cardiff and Hereford.

The ATW Cheltenham services start and terminate at Gloucester, and services will be retimed between Cardiff and Gloucester. Passengers are advised to use other operators between Gloucester and Cheltenham.
