Canadian coffee shop closes after six months

-

CANADIAN coffee chain Tim Hortons has closed one of its Welsh stores, just six months after opening.

The coffee shop was located on Working Street, The Hayes, in Cardiff city centre and was part of the brand’s UK roll out.

It had opened in December 2017 and was the second Tim Hortons store to open in the Welsh capital following the first on Cardiff’s Queen Street in November last year.

The store closed on Sunday, June 24, and Tim Hortons has cited the proximity of its Cardiff branches as a reason for the closure.

A spokesman for Tim Hortons UK said: “Our location at The Hayes was too close to our Queen Street restaurant.”

They added: “Future openings are not affected and since launching in June 2017, Tim Hortons has been fantastically well received by the public.

“We now have restaurants in and around Glasgow, Manchester, Cardiff and Belfast.”

The location was previously home to Artigiano, which closed down suddenly in July 2017 before Tim Hortons moved into the site later in the year.

Tim Hortons have been rolling out stores nationwide, with the first branch in the UK opening on Argyle Street in Glasgow in June 2017.

The company’s third Cardiff branch opened this year, on Thursday, February 22, and is located on Albany Road in Roath.

They offer a drinks menu that includes freshly brewed coffee, espresso-based beverages, hot chocolate, French Vanilla and a classic frozen Iced Capp drink.

The remaining stores also sell baked goods, breakfast and lunch items, as well as Timbits – bite-sized doughnuts which come in a variety of flavours and proved popular on the opening day of the first location.
