Ed: I was terrified of loo-sing control!

-

SUPERSTAR Ed Sheeran has told of his agony at fleeing the stage to go to the loo – because he dreaded any pictures of wetting himself in front of 60,000 people.

Sheeran was forced to stop one of his record-breaking run of shows in Cardiff last Saturday twice to go to the toilet after downing bottles of water in the heat.

Red-faced Ed said: “Yeah, you know what, I’ve never done that before. You know when you gotta go, you gotta go. I thought interrupting a show to be like, ‘I’m going off stage’ is far better than a picture in the paper the next day.

“But I was only off stage for, like, a minute. I’ve never done it, I’ve never stepped off stage to do that before.

“So I was there, I was playing, I was singing – but it was getting worse and worse and worse; you know when you start sweating?” he continued.

“The problem is, because I play the show solo, I can’t just be like ‘Hey band, start playing!’

“So I literally had to put the guitar down and be like, ‘talk among yourselves.’ Usually with the adrenaline and all the water you drink, you sweat out.

“But I drank so much water before the show.”

The singer was caught short for the first time in his career in front of a packed stadium of fans – and then had another wee problem 10 minutes later.

Sheeran, 27, halted his Saturday night show at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff because he “needed a pee” after performing his smash hit Galway Girl.

Then three songs later Sheeran stopped in the middle of singing Photograph, saying “I’m so sorry Cardiff” before running off to the toilet again. He told the crowd: “I’ve been gigging since I was 14 and I’ve never done that. And now I do it in front of 60,000 people!”

Fans laughed and cheered when he returned to the stage.

Sheeran then continued singing where he left off.

Asked if his fans had been “livid” about the two interruptions, Sheeran replied: “I read that the next day someone said, ‘I’m disappointed.’ But I mean, I still played the whole show.”

Sheeran was quizzed about the gig on The Big Narstie Show on Channel 4, which will be aired on Friday at 11pm
