Burglar fails in bid to get jail term cut

-

A BURGLAR who inflicted “misery” on a Cardiff family by “ransacking” their home while they were away on holiday has failed to win a cut in his jail term.

Ryan James Osbourne, 23, was one of a group of men who broke into a house in New Road, Rumney, on April 10 last year.

The gang made off with £78,000 worth of the owners’ belongings, London’s Appeal Court heard yesterday.

Osbourne, of Violet Row, Roath, Cardiff, was jailed for four years in October last year at Cardiff Crown Court.

Despite claiming he had no involvement in the break-in, the jury convicted him of burglary.

The Appeal Court heard the men broke into the house via a rear patio door.

The goods taken, including jewellery and designer watches, were of high sentimental as well as monetary value.

Osbourne was linked to the raid by his DNA, which was found on a screwdriver left in a bedroom of the property.

His lawyers argued that his sentence was far too tough and ought to be cut.

But Mr Justice Stuart-Smith said: “Goods of high material and sentimental value were taken and the impact on the victims was severe.

“The burglary caused misery to the victims.

“There can be no possible complaint about the judge’s decision to impose this sentence and this appeal is dismissed.”

Osbourne’s bid to appeal against his conviction was also rejected.
