‘DARTH VADER WALKED ME DOWN THE AISLE’
THE force was with one couple who tied the knot in a Star Wars-themed wedding which saw the bride walked down the aisle by Darth Vader.
Sharon Jenkins, 48, and Rhodri Davies, 28, from Barry, met at the Colcot Arms, where Rhodri worked as a barman, and realised they shared a love for rock and heavy metal music.
They got together in 2015 and went on their first date to a concert in Bristol. The pair became engaged on February 29, 2016, when Sharon proposed to Rhodri over a cola in the Buck pub, and the immediate answer was “yes” with a lot of tears thrown in.
When it came to the wedding, the couple wanted to go all out to surprise their guests and decided to take inspiration from their favourite film series.
As guests arrived in their gladrags at Barry Register Office for the big day on March 23, they were met by some of Star Wars’ most famous characters.
Full-time carer Sharon said: “As both of my parents are no longer with us, I had Darth Vader to walk me down the aisle. “We had Boba Fett and a Stormtrooper surprise the guests while they waited for the bride and bridesmaids. Chewbacca carried the rings and gave them to the best man.” It was certainly a surreal but memorable occasion for all involved. The flowers for the ceremony were provided by Sharon’s friend Dawn Morris, while photography was done by Sian Garland. Sharon’s dress was ivory coloured with beads and sequins on the front and back.
The service was followed by an evening party at the Seashore Bar and Grill in Sully, where Sharon and Rhodri had their first dance to a rendition of Ben E King’s classic Stand By Me with a metal twist as the vocals were sung by Lemmy of Motorhead.
The couple are set to celebrate their honeymoon along with 15,000 people at the Bloodstock heavy metal festival in Derbyshire, in August.
