BABIES Baby Piper Jean just loves a cwtch and Toto’s Africa

-

Baby’s name: Piper Jean Broome. Date and place of birth: May 27, 2018, at 11.01am at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital, Llantrisant. Weight: 7lb 15oz. Parents: Mum, Shaunna Griffiths, 28, a kitchen team leader, Cwmparc, and dad, Rob Broome, 39, an energy outreach adviser, from Treorchy. They now live together in Trallwn. Father’s story: “Shaunna didn’t have any morning sickness.

“But she did crave Home Bargains chicken flavour ramen noodles.

“We were quite relaxed about the birth... until the labour started.

“We found out we were having a girl at the 13-week scan – luckily they got it right or we might have had a very confused boy on our hands with all the pink clothes people had bought.

“We picked the name one night early on after going through a list of names we’d googled.

“Once we both agreed we stuck with it.

“The labour was about 18 hours and was a bit difficult due to the length of time.

“Shaunna and the baby had to stay in for 24 hours after the birth for observation.

“Obviously it wasn’t the most pleasant thing for her to go through – but some parts were downright hilarious.

“Some of the gas and air induced conversations were surreal and let’s just say after the epidural all dignity goes out of the window.

“After spending most of the weekend in the hospital it was a relief to get them both home.

“She’s a really happy baby and, unless she’s hungry or needs a nappy change, doesn’t grizzle at all.

“She loves having a cwtch and listening to music... she’s got a particular thing for Toto’s Africa!

“We really can’t imagine life without her now.

“Life’s utterly changed for ever. We can’t even go and do the weekly shopping trip without it turning into a military operation of logistics.”
