-

A NURSING team is celebrating after being shortlisted for a prestigious award.

The maternity team from Cardiff and Vale University Health Board have been shortlisted in the Nursing Times 2018 Awards for their work in lowering caesarean section infection rates.

The team will meet with colleagues in the nursing profession for the annual awards ceremony in October to recognise, reward and celebrate high achievement in nursing.

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board’s maternity team have previously been reported to have had a poor rate of infection in caesarean section cases.

However, after making improvements, the team now has the lowest infection rates in Wales and the highest compliance with return of reporting information.

Winners will be announced at the Nursing Times 2018 Awards evening on Wednesday, October 31, at the Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane, London.

Cardiff and Vale of Glamorgan nurses will be competing for the award in the infection prevention and control category against hospital trusts in England including Barts Health Trust, James Paget University Hospitals FT, Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust and Solent Trust.

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is also shortlisted in the category of clinical research nursing at the awards.

Ruth Walker, executive nurse director at Cardiff and Vale UHB said: “I feel extremely proud that the maternity team have been shortlisted in these prestigious awards which recognise excellence in nursing.

“The team have worked very hard to ensure that infection, prevention and control measures are accurately recorded and reported, which is reflected in the health board now having the lowest caesarean section infection rates in Wales.

“I’d like to congratulate the team for their efforts in keeping our patients well and wish them luck for the awards ceremony in October.”
