All’s rosy for Gardiner and Co after superb start to new term from STM

-

STM Sports are enjoying a wonderful start to their Welsh League season on and off the park.

On Saturday, the St Mellons-based outfit carried on their unbelievable scoring form by defeating Tredegar Town 5-0 and that means they have racked up 50 goals in seven games played so far.

On Monday evening their player/ manager Dale Gardiner picked up the manager of the month award for August and they also scooped the club of the month award.

Josh Graham with a hat-trick, David Biggs and Ben Ahmun were on target last weekend and there could be more goals in store tomorrow at STM’s Llanrumney University ground when they entertain Aber Valley from the Alliance League in the FAW Trophy.

In the Nathaniel Cars Welsh League First Division top-of-the-table Penybont are at home to Ton Pentre.

Rhys Griffiths’ side cruised through in the League Cup last weekend when they defeated Albion Rovers 5-0 to continue their early-season form.

Kevin Richards, Bulldogs were successful in their last league fixture a fortnight ago when they surprisingly defeated Goytre Gwent away (1-0), which showed signs of an improved spirit at the Rhondda Club this season.

Taffs Well are at their Rhiw Dda ground tomorrow when they host Cwmbran Celtic.

The Wellmen will be glad to see the back of Goytre United who they have lost to twice in the last two weeks by 2-1 scorelines.

Llantwit Major and Port Talbot play each other tomorrow at the Windmill Ground in a fixture which would have seemed very unrealistic of a few seasons ago.

Llantwit have climbed up the Welsh football ladder while Port Talbot are still getting used to life outside the Welsh Premier League.

Pontypridd Town are finding the step up to Division One quite difficult at present and it doesn’t get any easier tomorrow when they travel to play Goytre United, who are perched well at fourth place in the table.

Ponty are currently the only team in the league without a point so avoiding defeat must be their first aim at Glanford Park, getting their points total underway.

Cambrian and Clydach head to Gwent to play Goytre while Afan Lido travel west to play Haverfordwest County.

In Division Two, Bridgend Street are at Caldicot Town and John Jones will look to take the positives from a superb effort in the League Cup last Saturday when his team narrowly lost 5-4 after extra time to Division One Haverfordwest.

The downside for Jones was the sending off of two key players who will miss out on the tough trip to Caldicot tomorrow.

Lee Sampson’s Caerau Ely have the chance to join the top three tomorrow when they host Risca United at Cwrt y Ala.

Caerau were surprisingly defeated by Third Division Ynysygerwn 4-1 in last weekend’s league cup so will want to bounce back and continue the decent form they have shown in the league campaign so far, against a bottom three team.

Dinas Powys are still after their first points in Division Two and host Monmouth Town tomorrow.

In the Third Division, Penydarren Boys and Girls club are still on maximum points.

Ceri Mullins’ free-scoring team are at home tomorrow when they entertain Trefelin Boys and Girls club. Pontyclun are also at home and welcome Tredegar Town to their Ivor Park home.
