Winners and losers... Cattle on the charge but the heat’s on Blues coach

-

THE Australia player involved in a post-match scuffle with an abusive fan may not play again this year after deciding he wants a break from the game.

Lukhan Tui was seen on television clashing with a supporter in a Wallabies jersey who had been verbally abusing players following their shock 23-19 defeat to Argentina in Robina on the Gold Coast on Saturday.

The Wallabies say that 21-yearold Tui, whose stepfather died just a few days prior to the game, was upset because his little sister had been pushed over in the incident.

The fan, who will not face any action, is quoted as saying he is “shell-shocked” and “distraught”, insisting he wasn’t aware that Tui had lost his stepfather or that the player’s mother and siblings were in the crowd.

Rugby Australia have since issued a statement, with chief executive officer Raelen Castle saying: “This incident was not something you want to see at any sporting event.

“Emotions were running high after the match on Saturday night and I understand why Wallabies fans are frustrated after a result like that.

“Two fans came into the area where players families were gathered and were arguing and using offensive language in criticising the players over their performance.” IT was one of those weekends in Welsh rugby that you want to instantly wipe from the memory banks - unless you’re a Scarlets supporter.

And even for the standard bearers of the regional game in Wales, it was all a bit of a slog in beating 14-man Benetton to become the only region to put a W in the results column.

But it wasn’t just in regional rugby where the stories could be found.

We look at the Welsh winners and losers over the weekend.
