FANS HAVE THEIR SAY ON CITY’S PREM WOES

-

CARDIFF City are without a win in seven Premier League matches this season following their 2-1 defeat to Burnley.

Neil Warnock’s men have just two points to their name and are only being kept off the foot of the table due to Huddersfield Town’s inferior goal difference.

Their latest defeat saw Burnley score with both of their two efforts on target, with headers from Johann Berg Gudmundsson and Sam Vokes earning Sean Dyche’s men all three points in South Wales.

And bookmakers have reacted to the Bluebirds’ winless start by offering odds on some alarming bets as far as the Cardiff faithful are concerned.

William Hill are offering odds of 16/1 for Warnock’s side to fail to win a single Premier League game this season.

And they will also give you odds of 10/1 for Cardiff to win 10 or fewer points in the league during the course of the 2018/19 campaign, a tally that would break the lowest ever amount achieved by Derby during the 2007/08 season. “Cardiff’s Premier League dream is fast becoming a nightmare and it looks as though they could be setting some unwanted records before the season is out,” said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly. Premier League relegation odds: 1/5 Cardiff; 2/7 Huddersfield; 9/4 Burnley; 9/4 Newcastle; 11/4 Fulham; 7/2 Brighton; 4/1 Southampton. And the bookies are the only ones concerned by Cardiff’s results so far. Here’s how the national media assessed the Bluebirds’ display against the Clarets. The Daily Mail’s Riath Al-Samarrai wrote: “There was a moment on Sunday when Neil Warnock (pictured) let off the sigh of a bruised man who knows more heavy punches are coming. “He had been putting a brave face on it for a few minutes - Cardiff should have had a penalty, he said, before explaining the many and varied ways that Burnley had been played off the park. And then he touched on his club’s supporters no group quite like them in the league.

“And all of that might well be true. But the giveaway, the real indicator of what this season is becoming, came when he mentioned that Cardiff ’s next three games include away trips to Tottenham and Liverpool. He couldn’t help but chuckle the chuckle of the damned.

“Bleak doesn’t really begin to cover it, not when October comes around and there’s still a big round zero in the win column.”

The Daily Mirror simply wrote: “Poor Cardiff might be used to being beaten - but this one really must hurt.

“It could prove an expensive defeat come the shake-up at the end of the season and that’s what stings the most.

“They could have had no idea what was in store for them and that’s just as well. Cardiff really do need to start picking up points or it could be a long, hard winter.”

And the Guardian’s Stuart James said: “These are still early days but the season is already shaping up to be a slog for Cardiff City.

“Toothless up front and nowhere near good enough defensively, Cardiff were picked off by a Burnley side who scored from their only two attempts on target.”
