Pitmen dig deep for a resounding win in Plate

-

PENALLTA are into the second round of the WRU National Plate after a convincing 61-3 victory over Abercarn.

The Pitmen, winners in 2012 and 2017, were favourites due to their higher league status and close affinity with the competition and they proved that with a devastating victory.

Laurence Pritchard stole the show with two tries and eight conversions.

Other tries came from Lewis Barnett and Aeron Bidgood doubles and single efforts from Aaron Owen, Elliott Keep and Max George.

One East Central leaders Glamorgan Wanderers are also through after an equally impressive 57-7 win over Llantwit Fardre.

Again, the Wanderers put their lower-league opponents to the sword with Will Ford bagging a brace and Johnny Wood, James Loxton, Will Adams-Jones, Gavin Nash, Rob Weston, Michael Owen and Harrison Ashby added the rest.

Rob Evans completed the scoring with six conversions.

Rhiwbina also enjoyed a good win as they beat Builth Wells 61-8.

Dan Murphy and Paul Smith led the way with two tries and were followed over by Jamie Deabreu, Olly Golden, Mike Curtis, Alex Kerr and Pat Howell. Lewis Pearce rounded it off with eight conversions.

In a much more even affair, Rumney just had enough to see off Abercynon 33-26 but needed extra time to do so.

Reagan Mahoney’s kicking ability steered them to victory with four penalties and two conversions.

He also crashed over alongside Tyler Mahoney and a penalty try.

There were also wins for Llanharan, Ynysybwl, Nelson, Dowlais, Heol y Cyw, Maesteg Celtic, Senghenydd, Porth Harlequins, Mountain Ash, Taffs Well and Treorchy.
