From socks and coat to marriage
The couple: Miriam Joy Thomas, 28, a recruitment consultant, originally from Llwynypia, and Jonathan David Martin, 29, a procurement adviser, originally from Penygraig. They now live in Church Village.
The venue: The couple married and held their reception at Oxwich Bay, Gower, on September 3.
How they met: Miriam said: “We first met when on a night out with friends at Penygraig Rugby Club back on December 22, 2006.
“We both knew each other’s friends but had never met one another.
“We started talking and got on really well from that day.
“It was snowing that December so he gave me his coat and socks to put over my open toe heels when waiting for a taxi home.
“Being so young I hadn’t thought about marriage but he soon became my boyfriend and best friend and just like that we’ve been together for nearly 12 years.
“We have passed our driving test, finished school, graduated university, travelled the world on exotic holidays, gone through the many ups and downs that life throws at you and bought our first home together.
“However, our greatest adventure was when our beautiful daughter Nancy Rose Martin who was born on June 5, 2018.”
The Proposal: Jonathan proposed while they were celebrating their 10th anniversary in Tenby.
Miriam said: “We had just arrived and I was full up with flu, but he wanted to walk into town.
“On the walk down he was reminiscing about the past 10 years of memories together and as soon as we were on the beach, I turned around and he was on one knee asking me to marry him with an elegant platinum diamond solitaire ring.
“He had already asked my father’s permission.”
“I froze in shock and of course said ‘Yes.’”
The Wedding: Miriam said: “My dress was a fitted, detailed Aire Barcelona by Rosa Clara and came from CocoMio Bridal in Cardiff.
“The groomsmen were dressed by Dyfed menswear.
“The cake was done by my cousin and one of the seven bridesmaids.
“The highlight of the day was looking around the room seeing the faces of everyone we love all in one place.
“Our first dance was to Perfect by Ed Sheeran.”
The honeymoon: The couple had a “familymoon” to Cornwall and are waiting until daughter Nancy is a bit older before going to Crete next year.
