Police probe bridge fall

A 26-YEAR-OLD man who fell from a bridge over the M4 is in a critical condition in hospital.

Police are continuing to investigat­e the incident, which happened around 3am on Monday.

After appearing to fall from Cherry Orchard Road bridge – which runs over the M4 at Thornhill – he landed on a vehicle which was travelling on the M4.

The westbound carriagewa­y of the M4 remained closed for more than two hours after the incident while police carried out investigat­ion works.

A spokeswoma­n for South Wales Police said: “A 26-year-old man appears to have fallen from the Cherry Orchard Road Bridge over the M4 motorway, near Cardiff.

“The male landed on a vehicle which was travelling along the westbound carriagewa­y, between junction 30 at Cardiff Gate, and junction 32 at Coryton.

“As a result of this incident, the man sustained serious injuries, and is currently in a critical condition at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff.”

The spokeswoma­n added: “South Wales Police would like to thank the public for their patience and understand­ing during this time.”

Police are asking anyone who saw the incident, or anyone who has dash-cam footage or any other informatio­n to contact them quoting reference number 1800401681.
