It’s Splott the difference as Albion notch up great eight

AFTER a couple of disappoint­ing results, Splott Athletic bounced back with an 8-2 victory over Cogan FC at Splott Park in the Luxury Windows First Division.

Bolstered by a plethora of former players returning, Splott raced into a 4-0 lead after closerange finishes from Harry Burge, Leighton Russ and Kieran O’Shaugnessy were followed up by a long-range drive from Tyler O’Brien.

Cogan managed to pull two goals back either side of another fine Burge finish as Splott headed into half-time 5-2 up.

The second half was much more comfortabl­e for Splott as Russ and O’Brien added second goals and Burge completed his hat-trick to round off victory.

Elsewhere, John Davey Builders followed in the previous week’s emphatic win, with a 2-1 success over Glamorgan Vikings. Kieran Mallett added to his goal tally for the season with a brace.

There was a shock at the top of the table as, after five straight wins, Real Caerdydd went down by 2-1 to Cardiff Cossacks.

Second-placed Michaelsto­ne Rangers also suffered a setback when they went down by 3-1 to Saints. Jack Huntley netted a brace for the Saints, which was added to by Elliot Rees.

Plough Albion moved off of the bottom of the table after a 5-4 win over Cardiff County in the Carling Premier Division. Rhys Bull was the Plough hero with a hat-trick, which was added to by Marc Curtis and an own goal. County were on target through Fraser Gordon, Alex Burkhard and Joseph Davies.

Grange Celts came out on top in the second versus third clash, with a 6-3 win over CSKA Sophia Gardens.

Newly-promoted Greek Cypriot Associatio­n of Wales won their first match in the top flight as they edged out Radyr by 3-2. Luke Winter, Benjamin Hartrey and Alex North netted the decisive goals for GCAW.

Trelai made it seven wins out of seven with a 10-0 win over the Golden Lion in the Everson Sports Second Division. Scott Chappell led the way for Trelai with five of the goals, which was added to by Matthew Andrews, Brian Coles, Michael Sheard, Matthew Furnish and Shaquille Reffell.

Trelai now have a six-point lead at the top after second-placed Higgs Locksmiths went down 7-1 to Thornhill Thunder.

Elsewhere, Cardiff Dragons and Rumney Rams drew 3-3.
