Wrap up warm as temperature set to fall
TEMPERATURES were due to plunge to freezing last night, bringing frost followed by a week of unsettled weather from showers, to heavy rain and even gales.
Forecasters have said temperatures will dip to 0˚C in Wales overnight, with light winds today, turning stronger by the middle of the week.
Met Office meteorologist Steven Keates said temperatures would remain around 6˚C or 7˚C today, due to a cool easterly breeze, but it should be a dry day, with bright, sunny spells and light winds. He added: “But things are set to change as we move through this week.
“We’ll lose that cool easterly breeze and our weather will start to come in off the Atlantic, so that means things will be turning wetter and windier.”
He said a succession of weather fronts would come up from the south-west, potentially bringing a deep area of low pressure mid-week.
That means it will turn more unsettled across all areas from Tuesday, with showers and heavy rain. In Cardiff, heavy rain is expected throughout the day tomorrow, with gusts of wind up to 41mph.
By Wednesday and Thursday, it is due to be windy, with gales likely in places. There could be waves up to 20ft in Porthcawl on Wednesday afternoon, according to surfing website Magic Seaweed.
There are no severe weather warnings or flood warnings in place.
