I’d love to extend stay at Bluebirds, says happy Harry

CARDIFF City midfielder Harry Arter has revealed he’d like to stay at the club after his loan expires at the end of the season.

The Irish midfielder has been a mainstay in the Bluebirds midfield since joining from Bournemouth on loan on deadline day - with fans taking to his no-nonsense tackling and work ethic on the pitch.

And now Arter has admited he’d love to stay with Cardiff on a permanent basis if they stay up – crediting the club and manager Neil Warnock with helping him rediscover his love for football.

Speaking about his desire to stay in South Wales, Arter said: “I want to be a Premier League player.

“That’s me being honest. I’m not going to say I don’t.

“It’s something I’ve worked for and I don’t want to give it up easily. I’ve had to work doubly hard to get here.

“I’m 29 next month and I know if I step out of the Premier League, it might be hard to get back. Playing Premier League football is all I want to do.

“I’ve said to my family already the dream season would be Cardiff to stay up, the manager to stay on and then hopefully I can sign because I’ve loved every minute of being here.

“I’ve loved every training session and every game. Every home game has had a meaning and the fans have been brilliant.

“That’s down to the lads - they can see they’re giving their all. Fingers crossed, it stays this good for me and we can sit after the 38th game with us having stayed up and looking to stay here permanently.”

Arter may have told his family of his dream scenario for the rest of the season, but he’s yet to tell the man who he credits for helping him

“Huddersfield came with a game plan and stuck to it and did really well.

The former Everton defender added: “In terms of our overall performance it wasn’t like us at all. We were sloppy on the ball, we didn’t get phases of play together.

“We need to get back to the drawing board and go again.

“We’ve not become a bad team overnight. We weren’t happy with how we played or performance, we’ve got to look at it and look at ways of countering how Huddersfield did us.

“From our point of view it wasn’t good enough.”

Coady’s viewpoint was backed up by manager Nuno Espirito Santo, who added: “We were all disappointed. Individually, each one of us has to look inside and see what aspects didn’t work and bounce back.

“We totally believe in what we do, the way we do things.

“Good performance with points, bad performance without points, it’s not the most important thing, it’s about how we react.”

enjoy football again - Warnock.

However, he admits he doesn’t really need to.

“Have I told the manager?” Arter said. “No, I think he can tell.

“He tells me to calm down. He knows my desire is there to win games. Sometimes I pick up too many bookings, but three points every week is all I focus on.”

After a frustrating season with the Cherries last year, Arter admits that Warnock has helped him enjoy the sport again, adding the Yorkshireman just “knows how to keep players happy, on and off the pitch”.

“He’s 70 and to be in the game so long, he’s obviously done a lot right,” continued Arter.

“I’ve enjoyed my time with him. He’s got me enjoying my football again, no disrespect to who I worked with previously.

“He makes me laugh. After last year, I just wanted to enjoy football again.

“It was always going to be a tough ask, it always is for any of the club that get promoted.

“But no matter what, win, lose or draw, come Monday morning, he’s that bubbly person that will pick you up again.

“As I say, he’s someone that people on the outside have opinions of him. I’ve never had a bad one and people that work with him know he’s a great guy.

“You can see in our changing room everyone has that same feeling for him.

“Results-wise, it hasn’t been brilliant but fans can see we’re leaving everything on the pitch for him. When he sees that, he’ll go home happy.
