BEST OF THE REST

MADE IN GREAT BRITAIN BBC2, 9pm

WELL you’re going to brie (sorry) in for a shock here. Apparently Britain not only produces more varieties of cheese than France, but is one of the biggest producers of cheese in the world. And there are plenty of other ahem, grate facts in this latest edition of the series about our production past.

Presenter Steph McGovern and a team of makers arrive in Wensleydale in the Yorkshire Dales and explore how it started out being made by French monks before finally being championed by Wallace and Gromit.

The makers attempt to produce the very earliest variations of Wensleydale. But from milking a sheep, to extracting ‘rennet’ from a sheep’s stomach, then re-inflating the stomach like a balloon, the challenge proves to be a bit of a stinker.

THE GRAHAM NORTON SHOW BBC1, 10.35pm

ANOTHER winning couch from the king of chat. Graham never lets us down.

This evening he is joined by Oscarwinning Hollywood star Matthew McConaughey, who talks about his new crime drama White Boy Rick.

Next to McConaughey will be professional wrestler and actor John Cena, who stars in the new sci-fi action film Bumblebee, based on the Transformers robot character.

As if we hadn’t had enough of him already tonight over on Channel 4, chef Jamie Oliver is on hand to talk about his latest cookbook, Jamie Cooks Italy – hot on the heels of his recent series that saw him chatting up mamas and nonnas for their recipes. Mark Ronson and Miley Cyrus provide the music.
