Top honours for martial arts club instructor Angus

A MARTIAL arts instructor for The Heads of the Valleys Tang Soo Do Martial Arts group is celebratin­g being inducted in to the Martial Arts Hall of Fame.

Club instructor Angus Rogers received his Hall of Fame award from the Martial Arts UK at the National Brewery Centre in Burton on Trent, in Novemnber.

Mr Rogers teaches at the purpose built studio in Brynmawr.

He was honored in recognitio­n for his hard work and dedication and commitment to the art of Tang Soo Do (a traditiona­l Korean Style) and the World Tang Soo Do Associatio­n for more than 20 years.

Angus said: “This was a huge accomplish­ment both for myself as a practition­er and instructor and hopes that it helps to motivate his students to go on to achieve bigger and better goals in the future”

The club itself has been experienci­ng a fantastic 2018 after club took a team of 28 students to compete as part of the Welsh team at the Ebbw Vale Sports Center, alongside 360 other competitor­s from all over the UK. The group consisted of students of all ages and grades including a healthy number of new starters who have joined the club in the last six months.

The whole team competed to a high standard and took home a total of 35 trophies, which comprised of 10 Gold, 10 Silver and 15 Bronze.

Angus Rogers, himself took three Gold medals in Weapons (Sword), and Forms and Free Sparring in the Senior Black Belt division, earning him the title of National Grand Champion 2018.
