Penarth’s firsts end the year with a win

-

PENARTH Hockey Club’s 1st XI made it two wins on the bounce to bring the curtain down on the first half of their Verde Recreo Premiership campaign, while there were another two victories amongst some mixed results for the club’s other sides.

The firsts continued their winning ways, following their 7-3 away success at Exeter University with a 2-0 victory over Team Bath Buccs A.

Goals came from Chris Baker and Laith Khatib to see Penarth looking forward to the resumption of the league in the New Year.

The 3rd XI travelled west for their penultimate game of 2018 and beat Swansea City 5-2 with goals from James Kidby (2), Dave Kidby (2) and Jasminder Singh (pen).

The 2nds, 4ths and 5ths were also in action at the weekend, sharing a win, loss and draw between them.

The 2nd XI travelled to the Cotswolds confident of getting a result against bottom side Wotton-underEdge, but were held to a 3-3 draw that keeps the Bears fourth overall in De Cymru & The Marches 2 heading into the break.

The Fourths also suffered a surprising reverse, going down to basementdwelling Whitchurch at home, before the 5th XI salvaged something for the club with an equally-unexpected victory over Whitchurch.

The two Penarth sides now occupy second and fourth places respectively in De Cymru 3, and both are in action this weekend.

The 5th XI kick-off the programme at Stanwell, entertaining Whitchurch (1.45pm), before the Seconds’ game against Bridgend (3.30pm). The Fourths, meanwhile, also face Bridgend, but in Pencoed (3pm).

Penarth Hockey Club welcomes new, old and returning players, umpires, supporters, friends and helpers regardless of age and ability.

Training takes place at Stanwell on Wednesdays, with the juniors on the pitch between 6.15pm and 7.15pm and the seniors between 7.00pm and 8.15pm.
