Halford’s aiming to become a Baggie

-

FORMER Cardiff City star Greg Halford could be handed a return to football by Championship promotion hopefuls West Bromwich Albion.

The Bluebirds promotion winner has been training with the Baggies and played for their Under-23s side against Reading over the weekend.

And it has emerged Darren Moore’s side are considering signing Halford on a short-term deal to provide much-needed cover.

Halford opened up on the loneliness and despair he felt after being released by Cardiff in the summer in a candid WalesOnline interview in October this year.

“Rejection hurts anyone,” he said on being without a club and effectively unemployed, training alone in the gym since July.

“It’s been horrible. It’s been the worst five months of my career.”

Halford revealed back then he was training with a “big club”, which can now be revealed as West Brom.

He will hope to help the Baggies over the promotion line, the same way he proved an unsung but vital member of Neil Warnock’s promotion winning crop.

“It took a lot out of me,” he added.

“But being in the club I’m with now has lifted my spirits and my confidence.”

The utility man lists Portsmouth, Nottingham Forest, Sheffield United and Reading among his former clubs and at 34 believes he can still do a job in the Championship.
