All to fish for as League goes down to wire

SUNDAY sees the final leg of the East Region WFSA Shore League at Cold Knap and Porthkerry.

In both the team and individual categories, it will be a close-run battle for the honours.

Just four points separate the topfour teams with a similar scenario in the individual table.

Teams must be booked in by 9.30am, fishing times are 11am-4pm.

Weighing in will be at Barry Plastics at 5pm.

The event has been switched to Cold Knap and Porthkerry due to a forecast of high winds.

A decision will be made at the book in on the day of the match if the venue is to be changed.

Due to high winds, the much awaited Cardiff Bay Yacht Club Cod competitio­n last weekend was cancelled.

DOW SAC fished their last match of the year at Sully and the Bendericks.

In first place was Matthew West with 7.68 kilos of rays and bass.

He was fishing the sand spit and won a Penn Fathom multiplier reel.

In second place was his brother Dave with 7.04 kilos of rays, also fishing the sand spit he won £100.

Third spot went to Colin MacInery with 4.94 kilos of rays. He was fishing at the Bendericks and won £50.

After the match the club league champion results for the year were announced.

In first place with 186 points was Angling Ambitions rod builder Dave Llewellyn, runner up was Lewis Holbrow with 178 points and Mike Kerslake was third with 164 points.

Heaviest fish of the year went to Holton Road Angling tackle dealer Ray Christofar­ato, with an excellent Smooth Hound of 7.58 kilos.

Barry-based Seaview Lads fished for the W Page Memorial trophy at Porthkerry and Rhoose where a selection of dogfish, conger and pouting made an appearance.

First was Paul Crook with 8lb 11ozs, second was Roger Green with 7lb 5ozs and Steve Doble was third with 6lb 3ozs

The club’s members only match will be fished this weekend at Porthkerry and Rhoose in the second leg of their Christmas competitio­n.

Bargoed SAC fished a measured match from Stout Point to the Bullnose at Cold Knap.

First was Jason Ward with five dogfish and a bull huss for 297cm

Runner-up was Alan Lewis with one dogfish for 50cm.

Newport SAC fished at Goldcliff and had a poor day where only one fish was caught.

Mark Wall won the match with a rockling of 0.08 kilo.

Saturday sees a member’s only competitio­n at Coronation Park, fishing times are 9.30am-12.30pm.

Penarth SAC fished their local pier and beach in the first of their Christmas competitio­ns.

In first place with two conger eels was Adam James for 8lb 8ozs.

Second was Joe De Andrade from the pier with a conger eel and thornback ray for 6lb 2ozs and third was Neil Hatton with a thornback ray of 3lb 8ozs.

Their second Christmas match this coming Sunday is on the local pier and beaches booking in at 10am fishing 11am-3pm.
