Merthyr look to get back on track at Borough

-

MERTHYR Town are back in EvoStik League South Premier Division South action this afternoon as they make the trip to Harrow Borough (3pm).

The Martyrs will be hoping to return from north-west London with three points that would also mark their first win in four league matches.

Gavin Williams’ side slipped down to sixth in the table and out of the play-off places after Tuesday night’s disappointing 2-0 home defeat by Poole Town.

Second-half goals from James Constable and Sam Griffin won it for Poole in front of 279 – the lowest gate of the season at Penydarren Park.

Merthyr were missing the suspended Ashley Evans, while injury and unavailability meant they were also without Ryan Prosser, Joe Hunt and Jarrad Wright.

The defeat means they have now taken just 12 points from nine home matches this term compared with 17 points from nine matches on the road.

Town are two points behind fifth-placed Hendon and 12 points back on leaders Taunton.

Today’s opponents Harrow Borough are 10th in the division, just two points behind Merthyr having also played two games less.

Borough were thrashed 7-0 at Taunton last Saturday which also ended a three-match winning run.

Merthyr will need to improve their form in their own backyard if they are going to be realistic promotion contenders and they have a home double-header before Christmas.

Next up they entertain secondplaced Weymouth on Tuesday night before then welcoming Chesham United – currently in the bottom three – next Saturday.
