I’ll always have a soft spot for Gunners and Arsene, reveals Warnock
NEIL Warnock and Arsene Wenger had some ding-dongs on the sidelines over the years, but it appears the Cardiff boss has a place in his heart for the former Arsenal boss.
Speaking on Goals on Sunday, Warnock recounted the time he spoke to the Gunners legend ahead of his 1,000th game as a manager.
“We had a few battles with Arsenal (at Sheffield United). I’ve told this story before,” Warnock said, who took his Blades side to North London for the landmark occasion in 2006.
“My thousandth game was at the Emirates.
“The dugouts there are miles away, aren’t they? And I’m looking, I’m in the centre circle with Arsene, he’s a big lad, and I’m looking up at him.
“I said to him ‘Arsene, look at the dugouts, they are miles apart, you’ll never hear me today!’
“He looked at the dugout slowly then he looked down at me and said ‘Neil, you will find a way!’
“I thought he was Arsene, I did like him.”
Earlier this season, ahead of the Bluebirds’ clash with Arsenal, Warnock revealed that the Gunners have a special place in his heart.
“I’ve had some good times with Arsene and I was sad (when he left), brilliant, the grass isn’t always greener. But I like (Unai) Emery, I think he’s got great vision and some good players.
“Arsenal is very special to me. The first game I remember going to with my dad was at Highbury with the big clock there and my dad used to put £5 per week away and sneaked me into the ground.”
