Van driver dies after col­li­sion

A 73-YEAR-OLD van driver has died after the ve­hi­cle he was in crashed into an­other, parked, ve­hi­cle in Maerdy, Rhondda.

The man died after the crash in Ox­ford Street at 8.30am yes­ter­day.

A South Wales Po­lice spokesman said the dead man was the driver of a white Ford Tran­sit van which col­lided with a parked Iveco Daily van.

A spokes­woman for the force said: “De­spite the ef­forts of the emer­gency ser­vices, the 73-year-old driver of the Tran­sit died at the scene.

“His fam­ily have been in­formed and are now be­ing sup­ported by spe­cially-trained po­lice of­fi­cers,” she said.

The spokes­woman added that of­fi­cers were ap­peal­ing for any wit­nesses to the tragedy to con­tact them.
