Van driver dies after collision

A 73-YEAR-OLD van driver has died after the vehicle he was in crashed into another, parked, vehicle in Maerdy, Rhondda.

The man died after the crash in Oxford Street at 8.30am yesterday.

A South Wales Police spokesman said the dead man was the driver of a white Ford Transit van which collided with a parked Iveco Daily van.

A spokeswoma­n for the force said: “Despite the efforts of the emergency services, the 73-year-old driver of the Transit died at the scene.

“His family have been informed and are now being supported by specially-trained police officers,” she said.

The spokeswoma­n added that officers were appealing for any witnesses to the tragedy to contact them.

■ Anyone who witnessed the collision, or saw the van being driven along Oxford Street prior to it, is asked to contact the Road Policing Unit via 101 quoting occurrence 1900015200.
