Tiger Bay revisited

-

Tonight at 8pm on ITV Wales is a documentary all about the 1959 film Tiger Bay.

The crime drama is set in Cardiff’s docklands and used real locations, including the streets, houses and pubs of old Tiger Bay.

Although, through the magic of cinema, Cardiff also boasts Newport’s Transporter Bridge!

It features 12-year-old Hayley Mills in her first starring role and for which she won a Bafta. She went on to become an international star.

In the documentary, made by Carwyn Jones – the creator of last year’s Dock Of The Bay series – Hayley Mills returns to Cardiff for what is quite an emotional visit.

Carwyn said: “As we filmed Hayley on the Tiger Bay trail, visiting the movie locations she first encountered as a child, you had a real sense that she was being transported back to those months she spent in Wales.

“Her affection for St Mary’s Church, the setting for those wonderful scenes in which she hides a stolen gun in her cassock, was heartfelt and moving.”
