St John’s College – quest for success
ST John’s College has achieved an enviable reputation both in Wales and among the top independent schools in England as a centre of academic excellence. It remains committed to its aim of providing the best possible education for girls and boys, as they become young women and young men, embracing all that life has to offer with passion, commitment and integrity.
Of this year’s fantastic results, A*- 37%, A/A*- 62.3% and A*/B - 87%, headmaster Mr Shaun Moody said: “We are absolutely delighted for our students. These results are a testimony to both the students’ exemplary work ethic and their teachers’ resolute commitment to support each and every pupil. Many congratulations to the class of 2019!”
The school’s strong, close-knit family community ensures that all pupils and students receive the care necessary to develop their full potential. Indeed, Estyn inspectors have observed that “The school’s provision for: care, support and guidance is of a high quality. This level of support makes an exceptional contribution to pupils’ high standards, wellbeing and attitudes to learning.” (Crown Copyright 2018)
The new sixth-form centre at Eastern Business Park provides additional teaching space in a modern, professional environment. The purpose-built classrooms, new common room and study-resource area with high-speed wi-fi will greatly enhance the sixth-form experience, creating an environment that is conducive to learning while allowing students greater independence.
St John’s College has a distinguished record of success with university admissions. Specialist mentoring and one-to-one guidance are offered so that students are fully supported with their subject choices, Ucas personal statements, university choices and ultimately career paths. The school has an outstanding reputation for gaining places at first class universities.
This year nearly 40% of the grades awarded were A* which is a truly outstanding achievement for the students, many of whom will be proceeding to Cambridge and top Russell Group Universities.
Sixth form students are encouraged to participate in a range of activities aimed at augmenting their educational experience.
There is ample opportunity to engage in public speaking and debating, the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and a wide range of sports and volunteering.
In the performing arts, students have the opportunity to become fully involved in the staging of senior dramatic productions, LAMDA and the award-winning concert orchestra.
They can also take an active role in the student council and sixth form prefect system, as well as mentor and advise younger pupils and become inspiring role models.
You are most welcome to arrange a visit to attend the sixth form open evening on Tuesday, October 15, 2019 from 4.30pm to 7pm where you will find enthusiastic sixth form students and teachers willing to discuss the remarkable provision made for academic success in the enhanced sixth form.
