■■Canton Townswomen­s Guild will meet at St Luke’s church hall (opposite Victoria Park) at 1.30pm today, Tuesday October 8. This month’s speaker is Mr Stephen Rowson and his talk is entitled “Victorian High Summer on the Bristol Channel”. Entrance £2 which includes tea/coffee, biscuits and free raffle. ■■The next social meeting of the Cardiff County Unison Retired Members Branch will be held at the City United Reformed Church, Windsor Place, Cardiff, tomorrow, Wednesday, October 9, from 10.15am to noon. The meeting will include a talk from Mr John Sheen entitled ‘Five Boys and a Pasty’. New and current members are welcome.

■■The October meeting of Roath Local History Society will be addressed by Mr Peter Sampson, chairman of the Flat Holm Society with a talk entitled “The Story and History of Flat Holm Island”. The meeting will be on Thursday, October 10, in St Andrew’s Church Hall, Penylan Road CF24 3PB. Assemble for 7.45pm with compliment­ary refreshmen­ts and the meeting commences from 8pm.
