A 37-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Officers have been in the area around Llys Graid Y Wion following the incident, which happened at about 8.10am on Sunday morning.

Officers had spent the afternoon searching a number of areas near to the flats.

Senior Investigating Officer DCI Darren George, of the Major Crime Investigation Team, said: “At this moment, we are not currently looking for anybody else in connection with this matter.”

Police have been carrying out investigations around the area surrounding the block of flats on Albert Street where a cordon remains in place.

A number of police cordons remain in place surrounding the flats, as well as along Sardis Road, and near Pontypridd Rugby Club.

A lane running parallel to the flats has also been cordoned off.

One local resident said his van had been parked in a car park within the cordon and police officers escorted him to and from his vehicle.

Residents who live in the flats said police had taken their contact details.

Three workers from Dewi Sant Hospital, who wished to remain anonymous, said they were worried about what has happened.

“We have to walk a fair bit from work to get our cars so it is a bit daunting, especially on your own,” they said.
