Musical stars searching for young talent of the future

-

WELSH musical theatre stars Sophie Evans and Sarah McNicholas are in Cardiff this Sunday on the lookout for budding singers.

Talent competition West End Calling is coming to Chapter Arts Centre in a bid to discover musical theatre performers of the future.

Sophie is no stranger to talent shows. After several television appearances in her teens, she gained wider fame as the runner-up on the 2010 BBC talent show Over the Rainbow.

She went on to play the lead role of Dorothy in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Wizard of Oz and in 2017 starred as Glinda in the hit show Wicked. She is the youngest person ever to play the role in London at the age of 24.

Born and raised in the Rhondda Valley, Sophie performed with the Mid-Rhondda Operatic Society from a young age to her early teens. She appeared on ITV’s The X Factor and shows for CBBC and BBC Wales before going to drama school and becoming a singing sensation.

Sarah recently starred in Wicked, as Nessarose. Her other theatre credits include Carrie, Evita, and Whistle Down The Wind. She is also an accomplished singing teacher.

Both performers will form the panel for West End Calling’s Cardiff firstround auditions for young people aged six to 21, offering contestants the opportunity to audition in front of a panel of West End stars, learn from their expertise and perform live on a West End stage in the grand final in London.

The first round for the Cardiff heats is a private audition.
