The health drive’s four themes...
Healthy Environments
This aims to give people the option and support to make healthier choices.
This means changing the way we shop and eat out – creating food environments where healthier food and drink is widely available, appealing and affordable.
The Government also vows to make green spaces, sport and recreation opportunities more accessible.
This includes making staying active while travelling the obvious choice in terms of safety, convenience and cost.
This will involve increasing cycling and walking facilities.
Sports facilities in communities will also be improved through this.
Healthy Settings healthier choices. These range from schools, workplaces and community settings.
The plans detail how settings have a big impact on influencing behaviour.
It means that every environment should offer healthy opportunities – whether this be work or leisure.
Education on health and wellbeing will play a key part in helping to reduce obesity, according to the plans.
Healthy People
This is based around prevention and early intervention.
This means providing advice, information and support – including the opportunity to regularly discuss lifestyle choices with health and care professionals.
The plans acknowledge that maintaining a healthy weight throughout our lives can be difficult, and so promotes tackling the issue early. This includes extra advice for expectant parents, and more support for those with specialised health needs, such as type two diabetes.
The plans also promise equity of access to surgery for those who need it.
Leadership and Enabling Change This means improving the way Healthy Weight: Healthy Wales is delivered across all sectors.
This focuses on consistency and understanding, ensuring everyone is on the same page.
The government will work closely with public service boards, and partners to “inform and shape local thinking”.
This is designed to be a long term approach by the Welsh Government to alter how we think about health and wellbeing.
The plans detail the need to drive improved leadership and accountability on all levels.
