A TEENAGER threatened to kill his exgirlfriend in McDonald’s after punching in a fence when he bumped into her in a nightclub.

Aaron Moore, 19, was on a night out in Cardiff city centre when he saw his former partner Catelyn Carling in the smoking area of Tiger Tiger nightclub in Greyfriars Road on November 3 last year.

A sentencing hearing at Cardiff Crown Court on Tuesday heard Moore became upset and shouted “what is she doing here?” before punching an internal fence.

He then began abusing Ms Carling, calling her a “s***”, until she walked away upset.

At 3am when the nightclub was closing, Moore followed Ms Carling to McDonald’s in Queen Street and tried to grab her arm.

He said to her “I’ll stab you” and “I’ll hurt you”.

When they reached the fast food restaurant, where the defendant and Ms Carling had previously worked together, the duty manager became concerned for her welfare.

He spoke to Moore who said to him “I’ll stab her” and “I hate her” before punching an advertisement sign on a nearby wall.

Moore then said “I’m going to kill her before I die” which upset Ms Carling and her friends who were concerned for their safety and fled the area by taxi.

They called the police who arrested Moore, of Llangefni Place, Llanishen, on suspicion of making threats to kill.

During his police interview, Moore admitted to punching a fence and a sign and to calling the complainant a “s***” but he denied threatening to kill her.

Prosecutor Jeffrey Jones said the defendant later changed his plea to guilty in respect to a charge of affray on the day of this trial.

Defence barrister David Pinnell said his client recognised his shortcomings in having difficulty dealing with his emotions, his temper and self control, and in his inability to self-reflect.

He said he hoped the court could refrain from jailing Moore, who had attended an interview for a carpentry apprenticeship on the day of his sentencing.

The court also heard Moore was battling a serious cannabis habit.

The Recorder of Cardiff Judge Eleri Rees, sentencing, said: “Let’s hope you have grown up a bit during the last year. Your behaviour was disgraceful and fuelled by alcohol. The complainant didn’t deserve you shouting at her and making distressing threats against her.”

Moore was sentenced to a 12-month community order and was ordered to carry out a 20-day rehabilitation activity requirement, to abide by a 12-week electronic tag curfew and to pay court costs of £500.
