Arrest after man allegedly stabbed

ARMED police have arrested a man in Cardiff city centre following an alleged stabbing in neighbouri­ng Newport.

Gwent Police responded to reports that a man had been stabbed in the Alway area of Newport at about 11.15am on Wednesday.

A 26-year-old man from Newport was conveyed to the Royal Gwent Hospital with injuries to his leg.

Yesterday morning, a man from Llanrumney was arrested on Westgate Street in Cardiff.

The 19-year-old is being held on suspicion of robbery and grievous bodily harm and remained in police custody yesterday.

A Gwent Police spokesman said officers responded to reports that a man had been stabbed on Newport’s

Penkin Hill. The 26-year-old man was taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital with injuries to his leg.

Following treatment he has been discharged from hospital and is recovering at home.

During the altercatio­n, the alleged victim also had his watch and phone stolen from his pocket.

Detective Inspector Amanda Venn, of Gwent Police’s East Local Policing Area, said: “An investigat­ion into the circumstan­ces surroundin­g this incident is underway and we currently have officers in the area carrying out further enquiries and providing reassuranc­e to the local community.”
