Linnets looking to claim back top spot in Premier

-

BARRY Town host Airbus UK at Jenner Park tomorrow (2.30pm) and Gavin Chesterfield’s team will be looking for a win to stay amongst the title contenders in the JD Cymru Premier.

The Linnets continued their fine form last Saturday with a solid performance in their 1-1 draw at Bala Town, who also have aspirations of finishing in the top three.

Fit-again Keyon Reffell equalised a Henry Jones strike to share the spoils in a game where Barry could easily have taken the three points on offer as Sion Spence hit a post with a superb free-kick and Clayton Green made Bala goalkeeper Ashley Morris produce a smart save from his 30-yard half-volley.

Connah’s Quay Nomads have taken the top spot in the league away from the Jenner Park club by a point after securing a last-minute win at Cardiff Met last weekend.

Barry will look to make it three wins from five home games against Airbus to try and recapture the league’s top spot once more.

Airbus come into the game on the back of a decent 2-0 home victory last Saturday against Newtown where their towering striker Andy Owens delivered a brace, and Owens could be a key figure if the Wingmakers are to travel back up north with any points.

Cardiff Met conceded in the last minute for the third match in a row at home to Connah’s Quay last weekend and will want to get back to winning ways tonight when they travel a couple of hours away to Newtown’s Latham Park (7.45pm).

The Archers’ early-season form as tailed off a bit and Christian Edwards talented squad will be looking for their first win in four games against the Robins.

They say that luck evens itself out over a period in football so you could say the students are owed a little after two headed own goals against Airbus and Connahs Quay have cost the Cyncoed club at least four points in their last few games.

The Met and Newtown like to play passing games and both clubs will be looking for a win to recapture their form, but a draw looks the safe bet between the sixth and seventh clubs at present.

Penybont are at their Kymco Stadium on Sunday when they host Cefn Druids (2.30pm).

Rhys Griffiths and his players have to quickly get over their 3-2 defeat last weekend to The New Saints and take the positives to try and get a win over Druids, who recorded their first win in eight games last weekend when they defeated Caernarfon 3-1.

JD Cymru South

TAFFS Well kick off the Cymru South programme this evening when they entertain Afan Lido at Rhiw Dda’r (7.30pm).

Manager Steve Williams will want his 19-year-old striker Jordan Carey to keep up his scoring run for the Wellmen if his team are to improve on their twelfth position in the league.

Lido will look to impressive youngster Noah Daley to spark their midfield into action in what should be a close contest to call.

STM Sports have seven wins from 10 games so far and will definitely look to make it eight when they host Briton Ferry at Llanrumney University tomorrow.

Nana Baah and Dale Gardiner will look to keep their promising group of players on their top form to keep them at the top end of the table tomorrow evening.

Llantwit Major host Pontypridd Town at their Windmill Lane Ground tomorrow.

Darren Robinson’s Llantwit are doing well in seventh place in his first spell as a manager.

Pontypridd have two wins from nine games played and will once again look to their 100-plus club goal scorer Luke Gullick to pose a threat to Llantwit.

Caerau Ely are still to pick up a win, though.

They have lost in the last couple of minutes against Llanelli, Ammanford and Llantwit Major and Craig Sampson will hope his team can hold out for a win tomorrow against eighth-placed Undy at The Causeway.

In the Welsh League, Bridgend Street travel to AFC Llwydcoed and Dinas Powys play host to Goytre at the Murch.

In Division Two, Trethomas Bluebirds host Ynyshir Albions
