Prepare to be scared

It’s half term – and Halloween! So there are many frightenin­g activities in and around Cardiff for all the family to enjoy. From films to pumpkin hunts, we take a look at some of them

OCTOBER is here and that means one thing, Halloween!

There are some wickedly fun events going on across the country including Halloweent­hemed film screenings at a castle basement to Halloween trails, ghost tours and spooky steam trains so you’ll struggle to decide on just one.

Don’t forget to dress up!

1. Halloween nights at St Fagans

A brilliantl­y spooky place to spend Halloween, steeped in Welsh spooky folklore and history, you can make your own magic wand, listen to spooky stories and there’s live music and the burning of the Wicker Man.

2. Halloween Cinema at Cardiff Castle

Hocus Pocus

Halloween films such as The Lost Boys, Scream, Halloween and Friday The 13th, along with family-friendly Coco, Hocus Pocus and The Nightmare Before Christmas are being shown in the castle undercroft for a

3. Spooktacul­ar at Rhondda Heritage Park

There are loads of Halloween activities at the Trehafod tourist attraction including a pumpkin hunt, pumpkin carving, mask making and a themed show.

Extras you can book on are the spooky mine tours and a witchy craft workshop.

When: Tuesday, October 29, to Thursday, October 31 .

4. Halloween Outdoor Cinema

Pontypridd’s Barry Sidings park will be hosting a Hocus Pocus screening under the stars.

The cafe will be open serving food and drinks on the night. Don’t forget your blanket or camping chair! When: Friday, November 1 Where: Barry Sidings Country Park, Pontypridd, CF37 2PE

5. Spooky Science at Techniques­t

Half-term brings Spooky Science week to Techniques­t.

Ever seen a pumpkin carve itself, or a coin scream? Can you sit on a bed of nails without screaming, and can science be used to create potions and ghosts?

Find out at the Spooky Science show.

There’s also the Walking With Ghosts adventure and, for adults, on Thursday, October 24 there’s the Creepy Carnival, with killer entertainm­ent from Cardiff Cabaret Club and loads more.

6. Scarefest at The Phoenix, Ton Pentre

The Rhondda theatre and cinema is getting spooky with a great selection of films for the Halloween season.

Horror flims start with 1980s classic, The Lost Boys on October 25, Welshmade film, the haunting Gwen on October 28, family favourite Labyrinth on October 26 and the season finishes with the original Night of The Living Dead on October 30.
