Win for Shaone on Devils debut

-

DEFENCEMAN Shaone Morrisonn made his debut and Ben Bowns made 19 saves for his first shut-out of the season in a 3-0 win over the Fife Flyers on Sunday.

The Devils were relentless on the forecheck and controlled the majority of the play through the opening period, outshooting Fife 14 to five.

The middle period was more of the same but despite another 15 shots on goal, a total of 29 through two periods of play, the Devils could not find a way past Adam Morrison in the Flyers net.

The Devils got their chance in the final period after Mike Cazzola was called for high-sticking and then Morrison was called for tripping to give Cardiff a 5 on 3 advantage.

Sean McMonagle found Joey Martin at the side of the net, who buried the puck past a sprawling Morrison to open the scoring at 49:04.

Charles Linglet snuck the puck through traffic in front of the net to Stephen Dixon who roofed the puck from close range to double the lead just as the second penalty ended.

So, although it wasn’t technically a powerplay goal, the Flyers player barely had time to step on the ice before the puck was in the net at 50:55.

Matt Pope made it 3-0 with another powerplay goal for the home side at 54:41 with a one-timer blast off a pass from Gleason Fournier that sealed the win.

Devils now look forward to a home double-header against Belfast Giants this weekend.

Saturday’s match starts at the Viola Arena at 7pm, with Sunday’s clash set to begin at 4pm.

Meanwhile, Devils’ away game at Glasgow, originally schedule for December 17 and been rearranged for Wednesday, Match 25.

The match will face off at Intu Arena in Breahead at 7.30pm.
