Bolters who are out coach Pivac’s eye...

-

10 minutes.

He had former England and Lions star Austin Healey positively gushing just how good the Llandaff RFC product could be in the future.

DAN THOMAS (Bristol)

Another at Ashton Gate who has brought an added lustre to his game from having some shining examples alongside him in the Bears pack.

Packing down with the likes of England battering ram Nathan Hughes and All Blacks ace Steven Luatua is giving the back-rower more best in show plaudits.

Flanker Thomas has already worn the red of Wales, having been part of the U20s side that famously beat New Zealand at the 2012 World Championship and then reached the final the following year.

But while the likes of Ellis Jenkins, Samson Lee, Hallam Amos, Sam Davies, Rob Evans, Elliot Dee and

Matthew Morgan went on from those teams to win full caps, it was to be a different story for Thomas.

He was released by the Scarlets in 2014 and then spent three years at Gloucester where first-team chances were again few and far between.

He left Kingsholm for west country rivals Bristol for the start of their 2017-18 season in the Greene King IPA Championship.

And after just one full season among some of the best back-row players in world rugby, former England prop turned esteemed rugby pundit David Flatman picked out Thomas as one of his Premiership players of the 2018-19 season.

BEN THOMAS (Cardiff Blues)

The Arms Park rookie is seen as one for the future - but injuries in the back division could well lead to the 21-year-old being fast-tracked despite having just six regional appearances under his belt.

Thomas was named the Best Newcomer in the Premiership at the end of last season, following in the footsteps of the likes of Alun Wyn Jones, Taulupe Faletau and Tom James.

And the Wales U20s international has continued to impress so far this term for Cardiff RFC and was rewarded with a regional debut in the opening Challenge Cup fixture away to Italian side Calvisano.

Thomas is a gliding runner with silky skills and a great passing game. Blues coach John Mulvihill sees him as a 10 who can play 12. Watch this space.

CALLUM SHEEDY (Bristol Bears) The Cardiff-born player already has a paid up member of his fan club in Shane Williams.

Welsh wing wizard Shane is urging Pivac to bring Sheedy into his Six

Nations set-up to keep the exciting No.10 out of the clutches of rivals England and Ireland.

Sheedy has been a pivotal figure in big-spending Bears’ rise up the Gallagher Premiership table this term.

Despite playing for England in the summer against the Barbarians in a non-capped international, Sheedy remains eligible for Wales.

And Wales’ record-breaking try-scorer Shane believes Pivac should make a big play for putting Sheedy into his 2020 Six Nations squad – with Gareth Anscombe out for the season after knee surgery plus question marks surrounding Rhys Patchell’s fitness.

Sheedy, who came through the Cardiff Blues academy, has previously kept his international options having withdrawn from a Welsh Under-20s squad for a match with France that would have tied him to the red jersey.
