The retailer has joined forces with the South Wales Echo and award-winning Swanseabased Boss Brewing to offer readers the chance to pick-up a free bottle of Amber Gambler ale at participating Co-op food stores in South Wales.

Boss Brewing – which marks its fifth anniversary this April and won its first major retail contract with the Co-op in 2016 – is now listed in Co-op stores across Wales. The Co-op is committed to creating value in its communities, and its support for Welsh agriculture, growers and producers sees

hundreds of Welsh products listed in its stores - including Welsh lamb available all year round. In addition, to mark St David’s Day, the Co-op’s popular “Fresh 3” promotion will see Leeks and Potatoes – from Pembrokeshire-based fresh produce provider Blas-Y-Tir – and Welsh grown Daffodils on special offer in-store between 12 February - 4 March.

Paul Chudley, Co-op Regional Manager, said:

“Connecting communities and bringing people together lies at the heart of the Co-op. We are committed to creating value in our local communities – whether that is through investment in stores, our Community Fund which makes a difference to local causes across Wales, or our support for Welsh agriculture, growers and suppliers. Our Members and customers tell us that local produce available conveniently in our towns, cities and villages is important to them, and we are proud to showcase, celebrate and support great Welsh food and drink.”

The Co-op picked up the “Convenience Retailer of the Year” and “Food-to-go Retailer of the Year” titles at the latest Retail Industry Awards.

The community retailer provides a funding boost for local causes through its Membership scheme. Co-op Members receive a 5% reward on purchases of own brand products and services, and the retailer donates a further 1% to community causes – £17M was shared amongst more than 4,000 community groups UK-wide last November.

Co-op is owned by around 4.6M active Members, and alongside food, it operates: Funeralcare, insurance, health and legal services.
