A 21-YEAR-OLD man suffered what police have described as “life-changing” injuries after an alleged shotgun and machete attack in Cardiff.

Police in the city yesterday confirmed they were treating Monday’s incident as attempted murder.

They said the man from Tremorfa – who has not been named – has undergone surgery for life-changing injuries, caused by what are described as a machete and shotgun.

As reported in yesterday’s Echo, officers were called to Harris Avenue in Rumney at around 3.25pm on Monday.

Eye-witnesses reported a heavy police presence in the area, and the road was closed for several hours.

Forensic examinations were still ongoing yesterday at the scene.

Police said yesterday the injured man was in a stable condition in hospital and remained at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff.

An incident room has been set up at

Cardiff Central Police Station as the hunt continues for two suspects who fled in a stolen black Audi A3 (S Line), registration number LE03 SUL.

Acting Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Wales, from the force’s Major Crime Investigation Team, said: “This level of violence is extremely rare in South Wales and a dedicated team of detectives are working on the investigation to identify and arrest those responsible.

“We are appealing for information on the identity of two men we believe are responsible, and also for sightings of a black Audi A3 S-Line car which has a distinctive silver trim around the windows.”

The suspects – one taller than the other – are both described as wearing hooded clothing with their faces obscured.

Following the incident outside the shops in Harris Avenue, they made off in the black Audi in the direction of Greenway Road.

The motive remains under investigation.

Detectives are keen to speak to anyone who saw the men and any sightings of the vehicle, which remains outstanding.

DCI Wales added: “We are working hard to identify those responsible for this extremely serious incident and we ask the community to please be our eyes and ears and report any information.”

Rumney residents can expect to see a continued police presence today as area searches and house-to-house inquiries continue.

As part of the investigation, officers were also carrying out inquiries in the Ely area yesterday.
